Two brothers rob a bank. They don’t want a very high amount or large bills. On the contrary, they prefer to take a bit of each branch of Texas Midland Bank, but the reason is not explained to the audience early on. The brothers are Tanner Howard (Ben Foster), who recently left jail, and Toby Howard (Chris Pine), who seems the most concerned between the two that the plan works.

Due to the small amounts taken, the case is assigned to Texas Ranger Marcus Hamilton (Jeff Bridges, an Oscar nominee for supporting actor). Then, a persecution begins to find out the reason for the robberies, always of the same bank, but in different cities in Texas.

The story is very interesting and it has a good pacing, leaving us nervous and intrigued at the same time. The dynamics of two brothers is what draws more attention and the two actors are great in their roles, especially Ben Foster. Jeff Bridges is also good in the movie, but we are left with the feeling of “more of the same” as he has played similar characters throughout his career.

Nominated for 4 categories at the Oscars, including Best Film, Hell or High Water is an interesting film to watch and unlike the others that it is surprising that it was remembered by the Academy. It is worth watching the saga of the Howard brothers in this modern “western”.
