I’m always a little nervous about any movie involving dogs. I love dogs and my first thought before watching any film is “I hope nothing bad happens to the dogs!”. And I have a feeling that I’m not alone in this, because dog movies tend to be major tearjerkers (I have friends who hate the movie Hachi: A Dog’s Story mainly because it’s a sad story about a dog).

But I went to the movies and saw Max anyway, hoping for the best. It’s about a war dog, Max, who helped his owner Kyle (Robbie Amell), a US Marine, in Afghanistan. Kyle, however, dies in a mission and Max suffers from post-traumatic stress and will be put down. Kyle’s family doesn’t allow that, so the dog starts living with them in Texas and only obeys Kyle’s brother, Justin (Josh Wiggins). Justin didn’t have a very good relationship with Kyle, but he’s forced to take care of Max, so their lives change completely.

I enjoyed the film and the story, but I felt like it was too long, specially the ending. Maybe they could have shortened it a little bit, but it’s still a good film. I also liked the cast and I was surprised to see Lauren Graham doing a Texan accent. I’ve been a fan since Gilmore Girls and Parenthood, so it’s always fun to see her in movies.

And I loved the dog!! He’s a German-Shepard and he’s very well trained, because he’s in almost every scene of the movie and had some difficult tasks to perform. So it’s a good movie for anyone who loves dogs and who thinks it’s interesting to see that war can have effects not only in humans, but in dogs too.
