Since the beginning of the year New York has been completely filled with billboards and posters for Deadpool, which made me think it wouldn’t be a guaranteed hit, since it needed that amount of promotion. However, I couldn’t be more wrong. I had no idea people were eagerly expecting the release of this film, with many advance screenings sold out and a record-breaking opening weekend box office. Before watching it, I had already read that it was the best super-hero movie ever, that it was “groundbreaking”, etc.

Indeed, it is a different Marvel film. I’m not a huge fan of comic books, but it’s clear that Deadpool is an unique character, which would make an equally unique film. The difference starts already in the opening credits where, instead of listing the cast, it says that the director is “An Overpaid Tool”, the writers are “The Real Heroes Here”, while Ryan Reynolds is “God’s Perfect Idiot”.

The differences continue thorough the movie, with the story being narrated by Deadpool himself looking at the camera very often. It shows us how mercenary Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) turned into Deadpool after finding out that he has late stage cancer and trying to cure it. He participates in an experiment that gives him healing powers.

Filled with fast-paced action sequences and a lot of funny moments, including endless references to other movies and actors – especially Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine – Deadpool is fun to watch and definitely interesting. Having said that, I have to point out that I thought Ryan Reynolds’ endless monologues and jokes were a little tiring. At a point I wished he would just stop talking for a while.

Lastly, I was able to attend an event at Apple Store with the cast of the movie days before it was released, so I’ll leave you with some pictures of that!
