Agent Jason Bourne is the third in my list of favorite J.B. (after James Bond and Jack Bauer). The three of them have several features in common, for example: they’re agents trained to kill; they have had to work hidden from their intelligence agencies and are extremely patriotic. So maybe that’s the reason why Jason Bourne gave me a déjà vu feeling, despite being a good film.

In this fourth canon movie, we see Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) being chased again by the CIA after former agent Nicky Parson (Julia Stiles) hacks into the system and gets secret documents, including some about Bourne’s past (Operation Treadstone). The pursuit is led by CIA director Robert Dewey (Tommy Lee Jones), together with agent Heather Lee (Alicia Vikander, who is always great and who apparently is in every film over the past year: Testament of Youth, The Man from UNCLE, The Danish Girl, etc.).

The story is driven by the desire for revenge on both sides, with some parallel plots involving discussions about privacy in today’s world. Therefore, it could be a shorter film, but is filled with numerous action and chasing scenes in several countries (Greece, USA, Italy, UK, …).

I haven’t seen The Bourne Legacy, with Jeremy Renner, but apparently it was not well received by fans, for which reason Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass accepted to come back in this fourth film. The partnership is good for them and for the saga of Jason Bourne, as they can continue the story of the interesting and intriguing agent, always leaving us questioning about what exactly happened in his past.

For those who like action movies, is a great choice this season – but Bourne still behind Bond and Bauer to me…
