Filming in New York: Okja

This past weekend the city of New York served as location for the upcoming movie Okja, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Lily Collins, Paul Dano, and Tilda Swinton, among others.

The movie is set to be released directly to Netflix in 2017 and is directed by South-Korean Joon-ho Bong (Snowpiercer, The Host, Mother). It tells the story of a young girl named Mija, who risks everything to prevent a powerful, multi-national company from kidnapping her best friend – a massive animal named Okja.

The film will also have locations in South Korea and Canada, but this weekend most of the shooting took place in the Financial District, in New York, steps away from the New York Stock Exchange.

Jake Gyllenhaal was seen wearing shorts and a hat, as he was cheering the crowd (most of the extras had clothes resembling a pig – either the whole outfit or just parts of it, such as the nose or the ears). Tilda Swinton, wearing a pink dress, was also there. This Sunday afternoon Paul Dano was spotted shooting another scene on the same location.
